In 'cosmetic', Tiffany Parbs explores the ubiquity of aesthetic surgery processes through the paradigm of jewellery.
The exhibition presents a series of premises pertaining to contemporary cosmetic procedures, both real and imaginary. The work developed as part of this exhibition is largely ephemeral, challenging the permanence of a surgical presence on the skin: a false constructed memory that belies the natural journey skin experiences through time and environment. Are cosmetic processes a temporary mask to disguise underlying beauty? Is the intervention of surgery simply a surface refurbishment, disengaged from the concept of a damaged body? Does a body with flaws and history speak more truth than a manufactured body?
