On May 15, Cooper-Hewitt director Paul Warwick Thompson announced the winners and finalists of the 2007 National Design Awards, recognizing excellence across various disciplines, including architecture, communications, fashion, interior, landscape and product design.

The 2007 National Design Award recipients are:

Denise Scott Brown and Robert Venturi - Design Mind Award
Frank Ching - Special Jury Commendation Award
Office dA - Architecture Design
Chip Kidd - Communications Design
Rick Owens - Fashion Design
Lewis.Tsurumaki.Lewis (LTL) - Interior Design
Peter Walker and Partners - Landscape Design
Jonathan Ive - Product Design
Maharam - Design Patron Award

The 2007 jury is comprised of a diverse group of leading figures in design, including:
Stephen Burks - Principal and founder of Readymade Projects
Caterina Fake - Co-founder of Flickr and senior director of technology development at Yahoo!
Michael Gabellini - Principal of Gabellini Sheppard Associates
Tim Gunn - Chief executive director of Liz Claiborne Inc.
Reed Kroloff - Jury chair and dean of Tulane University of School of Architecture
Yeohlee teng - Founder and owner of Yeohlee Inc.
James Wines - Founder of SITE and professor of architecture at Penn State University

National Design Week
The second Cooper-Hewitt Annual National Design Week will be held 14 October through to 20 October 2007. National Design Week is an education initiative offering free admission to all museum visitors and hosting a series of public programs surrounding the National Design Awards.

Throughout the week, the museum will host a series of public programs and celebrate design on its web site with initiatives such as the People's Design Award, which gives the general public an opportunity to nominate and vote for a design of their choice.
