Beginners, a film by Mike Mills

You may be familiar with the director Mike Mills who has had a fascinating career as a filmmaker, graphic designer and artist. As a filmmaker he is best known for his work creating music videos for Air, Pulp, Les Rythem Digitales, Moby, Yoko Ono, and the Jon Spencer Blues Explosion and his debut feature Thumbsucker (2005). He is also known for his artwork for The Beastie Boys and Sonic Youth and he has created several short films for Marc Jacobs.

Mills’ latest film, Beginners, is loosely based on his own life experiences as a graphic designer and illustrator. Continue reading

London Design Festival 2011

Now in its ninth year, the London Design Festival programme has grown from 40 events in 2003 to 250 this year. Attracting international designers, contributors, partners, sponsors and audiences, last year 350,000 people attended Festival events and a million people experienced installations in Trafalgar Square and at the Southbank Centre. Brit Insurance Designs of the Year Awards – 2011

The annual Brit Insurance Designs of the Year awards, presented by London’s Design Museum, is on again. Now in its fourth year, the awards celebrate the past 12 months of design in the fields of architecture, fashion, furniture, graphics, interactives and transport. Craft and design as the future: Australian Design Alliance report launch

Craft Australia and the ACDC (Australian Craft and Design Centres) network sit along with ten other design and creative arts peak bodies to represent a new national alliance: the Australian Design Alliance (AdA). The combined membership is in excess of 20,000 members representing almost 80,000 design practitioners. His Excellency Michael Bryce AM AE launched its first national meeting with one hundred of Australia’s leading designers, architects, planners, educators and policy makers in the Utzon Room at the Sydney Opera House on 3 September 2010.
