The City of Charles Sturt is pleased to announce a design competition seeking compelling design proposals to reinvigorate South Australia’s historic Henley Square and surrounding precinct. The competition invites submissions from registered architects and landscape architects in Australia.
The Henley Square Precinct is a popular and vibrant beachside destination within the Adelaide Metropolitan Area with a strong regional appeal. The aim of the Henley Square Urban Design Competition is to develop design solutions that will better manage the needs of the local community as well as the visitors, without compromising the existing character and values that make the Henley Square precinct unique. Through this competition, the City of Charles Sturt seeks the best ideas from across Australia to re-energise the Square and its surrounds, preserve its heritage and improve this popular beachside destination.
The Henley Square Urban Design Competition is a two-stage design competition; composed of an open Stage 1 followed by a shortlisted Stage 2. Up to three shortlisted teams will receive an honorarium of $15,000 to undertake design development of their Stage 1 submissions. At the end of Stage 2 an independent jury will select a winner, who will be contracted to complete design development of their winning submitted design, through to completion of the redevelopment.
All submissions will be assessed against four criteria; overall merit, integration of diverse land uses, improvement to connectivity and permeability and finally, viability in response to budgetary and site constraints.
