Join Professor Marcia Pointon on 14 March as she looks at the fascinating history of the diamond engagement ring. Pointon is a Senior Research Professor at Norwich University of the Arts, Professor Emeritus of History of Art at the University of Manchester UK and Research Fellow at the Courtauld Institute of Art, London. Her professional interests range across many aspects of visual culture, imagery and representation in Western media from 1700 to the present. In 2009, Pointon published Brilliant Effects: a Cultural History of Gem Stones and Jewellery exploring the significance of gem stones and jewellery in shaping the world around us. This very special talk is sure to delight and inspire while revealing the intriguing history of and our enduring love and passion for the diamond engagement ring.
The 45 min talk will be preceded by complimentary refreshments.
