The session commenced with symposium attendees from the northern hemisphere being invited to share why they’d come to the symposium and their responses to it. Then designers/makers whose works were represented in the ‘Smart works: design and the handmade’ exhibition but who hadn’t presented a talk at the symposium were invited to speak.

Panel members, Peter Day, Philip Clarke and Joe Pascoe were then asked to consider the issues/questions: Here or there’, skills and technologies, changing values, sustainability, self or outsource’, local or global’, material knowledge….

The final wrap-up was provided by Grace Cochrane and Brian Parkes.
