Description
Model, 'wind tunnel test', Sydney Opera House (Major Hall), built to indicate wind pressure distribution over the roof sails, polished wood, unknown maker for Ove Arup and Partners in collaboration with the architect Jorn Utzon, London, England, 1960

Timber model of the Opera House (Major Hall) on base. Polished timber model (scale = 1:100). The purpose of the model was to indicate where the structural nodes (wind-pressure pressure taps/ducts) for the pipes would be inserted in the roof, to allow for a study of the wind force and pressures around the shell. There are a series of curved lines on each shell, and portals were placed at intervals along these lines. The model has 12 removable sections. Maker's name not included on model.
