Didactic display, pearl shell / metal / cardboard, maker unknown, Sydney, New South Wales, Australia, 1875-1885

A didactic display illustrating pearl button manufacture. The display consists of half a pearl shell with three holes of varying sizes cut through its surface, three examples of different sized 'button blanks', these are the circular pieces of pearl removed from the shell, two metal tubular revolving saw attachments, used to remove the blanks from the pearl shell and a small cardboard label used in the display.
