Three fabric swatches joined by way of a red plastic swage through top right hand corner. All three fabrics are stiped cotton jerseys, one is a soft brushed jersey, one swatch is in pinks, one in greens and the brushed jersey in purples. Swaged with the swatches is a brown printed cardboard label: 'FUNK INC/funkessentials'.

Sara Thorn and Bruce Slorach are two of Australia's most innovative and successful textile and clothing designer. They established the Abyss studio in 1983 designing and selling a unique range of clothing from their own retail outlet in Melbourne. In 1992 they closed the retail outlet and started a new label called funkessentials taking their designs in a more commercial direction. They have continued to design their own advertising material using funky cartoon imagery with quirky messages that mixes images from technology, TV and comic culture with classic clothing traditions reworking them into an eclectic whole with a very cool hip edge, appealing to the hip hop and rock and roll crowd.
