Statement of significance
This map was contained, folded up, in the inside pocket of the guidebook, 'The Western Hills of Peking' which Hedda Hammer (Morrison) purchased shortly after she arrived in China in 1933. She took it with her on photographic trips to the many temples, cultural and scenic sites that lay within a short distance of the city. Handwritten notes plot Hedda's routes and overnight stays during her trip to the 'lost tribe' country in July 1936.Description
