Description
Window panels (4), sun burst design, lead/glass, designed for the 'Ladies Boudoir' of the Capitol Theatre, Melbourne, by Marion Mahony Griffin/ Walter Burley Griffin, Australia, 1921-24.Four square, external window panels, art deco style, designed to be mounted together to form a 'sun burst' design; composed of leaded coloured glass (white, yellow and orange).
Production notes
The 'art deco' style of the light did not become fashionable in Australia until almost a decade after the light was designed. This reveals the Griffin's awareness of the latest in overseas design trends - long before they were popular in Australia.Acquisition credit line
