A11001 Stud box, electroplated nickel silver, Homan Silver Plate Co, Cincinnati, USA, c 1900
Description
Small square stud box with rouded corners, pin hinge lid, small knob handle in the shape of a dress stud applied to bottom right corner of lid; sides decorated with cast scrollwork, four button feet. Incised across the lid: 'Heres Your'.History notes
The Homan Silver Plate Co was set up in 1847 by Henry Homan and Asa F. Flagg. Early works were often marked 'Flagg & Homan'. First known listing under this name in 1896. It became Homan Manufacturing Co between 1905 and 1915. Closed in 1941.Marks
Underneath the base there is an impressed round mark with wording:WARRANTED BY QUADRUPLE PLATE/ HOMAN SILVER PLATE CO
Below the mark there is number: '185'.
Below the number there is another mark with stylised pitcher with a letter 'H' and hammer behind it. The figural mark is sandwiched between the words: SPECIAL METAL positioned above and below it.
