As part of the 2nd International Triennale of Kogei (Craft) at the prestigious 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art in Kanazawa, Japan, Object: Australian Design Centre Director, Steven Pozel, and Adjunct Curator, Lisa Cahill, have presented an exhibition of contemporary Indigenous Australian craft.
The curated pieces consist of 36 works by 20 artists. The collection represents many of the artists and communities who have taken part in Object’s exhibitions over the past decade.
The Triennale includes works representing Japan, Santa Fe (USA), Taiwan and Australia and opened on Saturday 3 August. The formal opening saw Steven Pozel joining the ribbon cutting ceremony, followed by a private viewing and floor talks by curators and artists. Danie Mellor spoke about his work in the exhibition, Native Gold, and contributed his considerable knowledge of Australian Indigenous art.
